Medical Innovation and Translation

Leveraging its strengths in Chinese medicine education, clinical practice and biomedical sciences, HKBU has established the Frontier Translational Medical Research Institute. The Institute brings together Professor Sir Michael Houghton, 2020 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, and drug development expert Dr. Robert J. Spiegel to pioneer research in medical devices, diagnostics, vaccines, integrative medicine, Chinese medicine, and other biomedical sciences. It aims to accelerate medical discoveries and drive their commercialisation and industrialisation, delivering tangible contributions to human health.

Strategic Chinese Medicine Research and Collaboration

Building on its acknowledged strengths in Chinese medicine education, HKBU is at the forefront of integrating Chinese medicine with modern scientific approaches. Through its partnership with Hong Kong’s first-ever Chinese medicine hospital, the University will work closely with the Government, industry leaders and academia to propel clinical research and innovation. The goal is to promote the internationalisation of Chinese medicine and anchor it firmly in Hong Kong’s healthcare system.

Art-Tech Initiatives

As a well-known cradle of creativity, HKBU unites brilliant minds across the arts and sciences to reimagine artistic and cultural expression. Sports Science/Athletes’ Development/Sports Industry

HKBU advances sports science research with cutting-edge technology and scientific methods to safeguard athletes' health and optimise their performance. In talent development, the University has partnered with the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre to develop professional training programmes in sports mediation, while its athlete admission scheme empowers athletes to excel in both athletic and academic pursuits through scholarships. Furthermore, the Department of Sports and Health Sciences plans to establish a sports industry policy think tank to support the development of sports as an industry, promoting it as an economic and tourism driver for Hong Kong.

Under HKBU’s “One University, Two Campuses” strategy, the Extended Study Programme in the Greater Bay Area allows local and international students to study at two campuses: HKBU’s Kowloon Tong campus and the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University in Zhuhai, along with internship opportunities at Fortune Global 500 companies. First-Generation University Student Fund

The First-Generation University Student Fund (FGUSF) at HKBU promotes equal opportunities for local undergraduates whose parents have not received post-secondary education. Research shows that first-generation students often face financial constraints and limited guidance, which can impede their academic and social development. To address this challenge, the FGUSF offers up to HK$15,000 to eligible students, enabling them to engage in extracurricular and co-curricular learning activities that foster whole-person development, facilitate career exploration, and make the most of their time at HKBU.

Student Scholarships/Bursaries

The University offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to help students overcome financial barriers and achieve their academic aspirations. Innovative Service-Learning

Residential education is an integral part of holistic learning, helping students develop essential personal qualities that complement their academic excellence. With about 3,800 students residing on campus, HKBU’s residence halls provide a supportive community that fosters their growth and development. Notably, the initiative Village CARE – Creative Arena for Residential Education – creates a living-learning environment that promotes internationalisation, global awareness, and cross-cultural understanding. Students from diverse backgrounds come together, cultivating a culturally and intellectually stimulating atmosphere that enhances their overall university experience.

University Christian Ministry

Rooted in its rich Christian heritage, HKBU provides through its Chaplain’s Office pastoral care and nurtures a spirit of kindness and civility across the University community. As a self-funded (non-UGC funded) office, the Chaplain’s Office relies heavily on donations to sustain its ministries and services. Your support plays a vital role in upholding the Christian tradition, fostering a compassionate community, and preserving the unique Christian atmosphere and ethos within the University.
