Thanks to your tremendous support, the University has attained a magnificent result in the Eighth Matching Grant Scheme (the Scheme) launched by the HKSAR Government on 1 July 2019. It is highly gratifying that the University has successfully secured a record-breaking sum of HK$950 million, comprising HK$662 million in donations and HK$288 million in matching funds, by the close of the Scheme. In terms of the total sum, HKBU ranks fourth (please click here) among the ten participating tertiary institutions, representing an impressive growth of 62% over the amount raised under the Sixth Matching Grant Scheme. This remarkable result will certainly provide a solid bedrock of support for the University's long-term advancement.
When the Scheme was launched, the fundraising work of the University became extremely challenging, with Hong Kong adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and facing a gloomy economic outlook. However, during these unprecedented times, HKBU is profoundly grateful to have received bountiful contributions from our dedicated supporters, thereby enabling the University to achieve such spectacular results in its fundraising efforts. On behalf of the staff and students of HKBU, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our University's staunch supporters and friends for their graciousness and generosity.
This year, HKBU celebrates its 65th anniversary, and there has been no gift more welcome than these additional funding resources. They will be used to enhance our capacities through, for instance, the development of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity, the recruitment of talents from around the world, the redevelopment of the Ho Sin Hang Campus and the establishment of six interdisciplinary research laboratories. These projects are key to helping us achieve our goals of academic excellence and make a meaningful impact on society and the world.
Looking ahead, we will continue to foster our fruitful partnerships with a wide variety of sectors and embrace collaborations with additional international partners and experts. Their assistance is vital to realising HKBU's educational goals and equipping HKBU to become a leading research-led liberal arts university in Asia for the world. You are always most welcome to join the HKBU Foundation and also to invite your friends to join us in building for a brighter future. If you have fundraising initiatives that you wish to share with us, please feel free to contact Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, at 3411-7878 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
