Naming Ceremony of Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming Centre for Parkinson's Disease Research

The University recently received a generous donation of HK$5 million from Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming in support of the establishment of a research centre for Parkinson's disease. In recognition of the donors' generosity, the research centre located in the Jockey Club School of Chinese Medicine Building was named the "Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming Centre for Parkinson's Disease Research". A naming ceremony officiated by Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming, Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine, and Professor Li Min of the Teaching and Research Division of the School of Chinese Medicine was held on 8 October 2014.

In his address, Professor Albert Chan extended his appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming for their generous support for the University. Their donation will assist the School of Chinese Medicine in advancing its study and analysis on pathogenic factors of Parkinson's disease and discovering new drugs for the prevention and treatment of the disease, benefiting a number of patients in the community.

Ms. Angie Kou, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming, expressed her gratitude to the Clinical Division of the School of Chinese Medicine for providing professional medical treatment and great care for her father. She hoped that the donation could contribute to the research projects on Parkinson's disease conducted by Professor Li Min and her team.

The ceremony was well attended by family members of Mr. and Mrs. Ko and representatives of HKBU, including Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice-President and Director of the Clinical Division of the School of Chinese Medicine; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement; Mrs. Helen Tsang, Head of the Secretariat of the School of Chinese Medicine; and various teaching and research staff of the School of Chinese Medicine. After the ceremony, the guests toured around the research centre.
