Visit by The Hong Kong General Chamber of Small and Medium Business

A delegation of 17 members from The Hong Kong General Chamber of Small and Medium Business (HKGCSMB), led by its President Mr. Eric Ng and Honourable President and Executive Consultant Dr. Dennis Ng, MH, paid a visit to the University on 19 July 2013.

Founded in 1996, HKGCSMB is a non-profit commercial organization with the mission to protect the rights and interests of the small and medium enterprises in Hong Kong. The Chamber endeavors to enhance the corporate governance and productivity of the enterprise, and to explore new business opportunities and foster more favourable environment for the industry.

Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to members of HKGCSMB for taking time out from their busy schedules to visit HKBU. The delegation was briefed on the uniqueness of Whole Person Education at HKBU and the latest developments of the University. Professor Chan hoped that the delegation could gain a better understanding of the University from the visit and he looked forward to collaborating with HKGCSMB in nurturing talent for the community.

In his speech, Mr. Eric Ng said the Chamber's work is widely recognized by the industry and the government by facilitating effective communication between the two parties. The Chamber is also keen on nurturing young people. Mr. Ng wished to take this opportunity to foster mutual understanding between HKGCSMB and HKBU and explore the feasibility of their future collaboration.

The visit began with an introduction to the development of the School of Business by Professor Stephen Cheung, BBS, JP, Dean of Business. The guests then visited the Academy of Film and the School of Chinese Medicine. They were warmly received by Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research & Development); Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine; Mr. Derek Wan, Senior Lecturer of the Academy of Film; Dr. Alfred Tan, Head of the Knowledge Transfer Office; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement. A lunch was hosted by Professor Chan after the visit.
