HKBU receives HK$1 million from Jiachen Technology Limited

The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from Jiachen Technology Limited designated for the establishment of the "Adaptive Learning Centre" under the Faculty of Science. In recognition of the company's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony, officiated by Miss Zhang Jiachen, President of Jiachen Technology Limited, Ms. Song Yakun, Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation, and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 6 November 2012 at Shiu Pong Hall of HKBU. After the ceremony, the guests shared their wise counsel regarding the development of scientific research with HKBU representatives at a lunch reception.

Jiachen Technology Limited has been supportive of the University's research work on information technology, in particular those projects with academic and practical values. In order to strengthen this area of study, Jiachen Technology Limited supported HKBU to set up the "Adaptive Learning Centre", with the aim of revolutionising the practice of education with the most powerful adaptive learning technology around the world. It is proposed to focus on research and development in the fields of adaptive learning, computing intelligence, educational data mining and other machine learning technologies.

Professor Albert Chan expressed his sincere gratitude to Miss Zhang Jiachen for her tremendous support to the University. He expected that these state-of-the-art technologies will be adopted to empower education and provide personalised education services for the education sector.

The HKBU representatives attending the ceremony included Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research & Development) and Dean of Graduate School; Professor Tang Tao, Associate Vice-President and Dean of Science; Professor Huang Yu, Acting Dean of Communication; Professor Liu Jiming, Associate Dean of Science and Director of Centre for e-Transformation Technology Research; Dr. Wei Liqun, Associate Professor of Department of Marketing, School of Business; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.
