Cheque Presentation Ceremony for the Donation by the Wofoo Foundation

The University recently received a generous donation of HK$5 million from the Wofoo Foundation in support of the establishment of the Wofoo Foundation Outstanding Leaders Awards. Subject to the calibre of applicants, a maximum of 10 Gold Awards (HK$10,000 each) and 20 Silver Awards (HK$5,000 each) will be presented each year.

In appreciation of the Foundation's generosity, a Cheque Presentation Ceremony was held on 7 October 2010. Officiating at the Ceremony were Mr. Joseph Lee, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Wofoo Foundation; Mr. Cheng Yan-kee, JP, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor.

In his address, Professor Albert S.C. Chan expressed his sincere thanks to the Foundation and praised Mr. Lee for establishing the Wofoo Foundation in 1997 with a mission to nurture the young and care for the elderly. Professor Chan also said it is indeed an encouragement to the University community that the Foundation has donated again to establish the Wofoo Foundation Outstanding Leaders Awards.

The ceremony was well-attended by guests of the Wofoo Foundation, Wofoo Leaders' Network and Wofoo Social Enterprises, and supporters and friends of HKBU, such as Mr. Chan Wing Kee, GBS, JP, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Ir Peter K.K. Wong, SBS, JP, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, as well as staff and students.
